LIFE ISSUES

We pray that we can help you with some challenging life issues. Below are some common issues that we can help counsel you through. For Biblical counselling , please contact us.

Addictions

Addiction is present in all cultures and throughout the ages.  Addictions can involve substances (e.g. alcohol/heroin), food (e.g. obesity, anorexia, bulimia), money (gambling) or sexuality (e.g. pornography). Recovery from substance abuse will involve detox, counselling and ultimately, choices. You can download a Bible study on Victory which will help with the "choices" part of recovery - refer to pages 19-30.

Anxiety

Anxiety is experienced by all people at some time; it is a common mechanism whereby we are 'keyed up' for performance. However, if it occurs to excess, it can cause panic or immobilise a person in which case it is abnormal and harmful. 'Concern' might be a word that describes healthy levels of anxiety; it is accepted by the Bible (e.g. 2 Corinthians 11:28) and might be considered an aspect of responsibility. 'Worry' describes unhelpful levels of anxiety and can be overcome by confident faith in God's goodness to us (read Philippians 4:6-7). This is however, a growth process and Biblical counselling may be needed to achieve 'confident faith'. Some anxiety may be due to medical issues and need medical consultation. e.g. Hyperthyroidism.

You can download the Victory Bible study which will help with confidence in God's care of you, (refer to pages 6-9) or our Bible Study Soaring dealing with anxiety, anger and despair.

Cults

All cults have some common characteristics:

  • an authority other than the Bible

  • a charismatic leader

  • denial that Jesus is God in the flesh, or watering down of His deity

  • salvation by works (what you must do to get to God)

The true way to know God is explained in our booklet How to Know God. Use these links to find information on the Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons.

Depression

Depression has been referred to as the "common cold" of mental problems. Even Godly men and women in the Bible and outside the Bible have suffered from depression. Whether medication is used or not, Biblical counselling will be a key factor in recovery.

To find out more about overcoming depression see the resource Quieting a Noisy Soul, or download our Bible study on Soaring.

Family Issues/Marriage Issues

It is no surprise to you that families are in trouble today. Yet families were God's plan from the beginning. We seek to keep families intact; husbands and wives together and children with their parents. Our counselling is unashamedly Biblical. There is a Bible study on The Family that you can download. The first 6 chapters deal with issues in the husband-wife relationship. The last chapter deals with children.
